FAQs

Installation & Mounting

Where is the best place to mount my eLam Level?

The device can be mounted either internally (inside a cupboard or on the floor) or externally (on the drawbar). For the strongest Bluetooth connection to your vehicle, place the unit as close to the front of the van as possible and at a higher elevation if practical.

How should the device be oriented?

It must be placed on a flat, horizontal surface. Ensure the arrow on the casing is pointing directly toward the front of the van. The unit should be square with the chassis to ensure accurate side-to-side and front-to-back readings.

Can I mount it on the drawbar?

Yes. The eLam Level V2-Plus has an IP67 waterproof rating, making it suitable for external use. When mounting externally, do not rely on double-sided tape alone; always secure the device with cable ties or a permanent mounting solution to prevent it from being lost during travel.

Does placement in a corner or to one side affect accuracy?

No. Once the device is calibrated to your specific "level" position, it will accurately track that value regardless of whether it is centered or mounted in a corner.

Can I mount the device upside down?

No. Mounting the device upside down will cause logic errors within the app's display. If you need to adhere the device to the underside of a shelf, ensure it is still oriented horizontally and "right-side up" relative to the internal sensors.

App & Technical Setup

How do I calculate measurements for a Tandem Axle?

For tandem axle trailers, measure from the center point between the two axles to the center of the jockey wheel. Input this value into the app settings to ensure accurate pitch and roll calculations.

What is the "Ramp Height" setting?

This allows you to input the height of your specific leveling ramps. Once set, the app will display an orange "in range" indicator, letting you know exactly when to place your ramps to achieve a perfectly level result.

Security & Connectivity:

The eLam app allows you to connect to multiple trailers if you own more than one unit. For security, it is highly recommended to change the default password (1234) in the app settings to prevent others from connecting to your device while at a campsite.

Can you connect to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

No, the eLam Level app does not natively support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Because Apple and Google strictly control which categories of apps are allowed on vehicle dashboards (primarily restricting them to navigation, audio, messaging, and EV charging), utility and hardware-syncing tools like eLam aren't permitted on those platforms.

You will need to run the app directly on your smartphone or a mounted tablet in the cab while you maneuver into position. Fortunately, the app is optimized for this with a landscape mode and high-visibility color indicators, allowing you to easily view the ramp height metrics and leveling status from your phone on the dashboard.

Battery & Maintenance

How do I replace the batteries?

The V2-Plus is powered by 2 x AA batteries. To replace them, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the device from its mounting position. (If using tape, use a thin wire or flat blade to release the adhesive—do not "twist" the casing as this can damage the internal circuit board).

  2. Access the screws: Locate the rubber strips/covers at the four corners of the base. Gently lift the rubber corners to reveal the four mounting screws.

  3. Open the casing: Undo the screws and carefully separate the top and bottom casing.

  4. Handle with care: Gently unclip the circuit board by the edges (avoid touching the circuitry) to access the battery compartment.

  5. Reassemble: Insert the new batteries and snap the board back into place. Ensure the center rubber button is properly aligned with the grooves in the casing before tightening the screws and replacing the rubber corner covers.

⚠️ Note: Once the batteries have been replaced, the device's Bluetooth password will automatically reset to the factory default (1234). You will need to re-enter your custom password in the app settings after powering it back on.

Power Management & Storage:

While the device is designed for year-round use, you can turn it off during long-term storage to maximize battery life.

  • To turn ON: Press the button until the Green LED flashes 4 times.

  • To turn OFF: Press the button until the Red LED flashes 3 times.

  • Note: Turning the device off will also reset the Bluetooth password to the factory default (1234).

Troubleshooting Tip

If you have difficulty connecting from the driver's seat, try relocating the device closer to the front window of the van or mounting it externally on the drawbar to bypass any signal interference from the van's cladding or electrical equipment.
