eLam Level V2-Plus User Guide
Initial Setup & Placement Checks
Note: It is highly recommended to complete the initial setup and connection checks prior to heading out on your travels. Download the eLam level app from the bottom of our homepage.
-
Power On: Firmly press the rubber button on the eLam Level device until you hear a click. The Green LED will flash 4 times to indicate the device is turned on and visible to the eLam Level app.
-
Connect: Open the eLam Level app on your phone, select 'Find Devices', and connect to your unit.
-
Configure Dimensions: Select the 'Settings' button on the bottom navigation bar and enter your vehicle's dimensions as shown in the app diagrams:
-
For Caravans / Trailers: Enter your Axle Length (track width) and Jockey Wheel to Axle Length. For tandem axle trailers: Measure from the center point between the two rear wheels to the center of the jockey wheel.
-
For Motorhomes: Select Motorhome mode in the app, then enter your Track Width (distance between left and right wheels) and Wheelbase (distance from the center of the front axle to the center of the rear axle).
-
-
Set Ramps: Select your closest physical ramp height and adjust any other preferences.
Before permanently mounting the device with double-sided tape, perform this placement check:
-
Place the eLam Level on a flat, horizontal surface inside the vehicle with the arrow facing directly towards the front.
-
If towing a Caravan: Reverse your towing vehicle close to the drawbar.
-
Sit in the driver's seat (or motorhome cockpit), open the app, and check the connection.
-
If you experience signal issues, test different locations. For the best connection, place it as close to the front of the vehicle as practical, and higher up if possible (e.g., near a front window to bypass signal interference from metal cladding).
-
Safety Note: Always mount your phone in a dashboard cradle while driving for a clear line of sight and safe ease of use when moving up the leveling ramps.
Calibrating the Device
-
Manually level your caravan or motorhome to perfection using your physical ramps, jacks, or jockey wheel.
-
Once the vehicle is completely level, open the app and select the 'Calibrate' button.
-
Wait a few moments until the app confirms calibration is complete.
Leveling Your Vehicle
-
Place your phone securely in a dash cradle.
-
When you are ready to find the ideal camping spot, select the 'Start Leveling' button in the app.
-
Drive slowly. When the app indicator enters the orange zone, it means you are in range — stop and place your leveling ramp(s) under the lowest wheels.
-
Move the vehicle slowly up the ramp(s), allowing a moment for the on-screen indicator to settle at each point.
-
Tip: If your vehicle has a low-range gearbox or a manual transmission, take it very slow to maintain precise control up the ramps.
-
Decoupling & Coupling Your Van (Caravans Only)
Note: This feature is specific to towable trailers and is automatically disabled when the app is configured for a motorhome.
-
When Unhooking: Once you have unhitched from the car and raised the van using the jockey wheel, select 'Save Hitch Angle' in the app.
-
When Re-coupling: Before reversing your car back to the van, select 'Adjust Hitch' in the app. Wind the jockey wheel up or down until the on-screen indicator is close to your saved hitch angle. You can now reverse your car safely to the hitch, knowing the coupler is at the exact height it was when you disconnected.
Device LED Indicator Guide
The device features a single button interface:
-
OFF (Not visible to Bluetooth): The Red LED flashes 3 times.
-
ON (Visible / Pairing Mode): The Green LED flashes 4 times.
-
Connected to App: A solid Green LED stays on.
-
Connection Timeout: If the device does not automatically disconnect after you close the app, press and hold the button to manually force a disconnection.
Resetting the Device PIN
To reset your security PIN back to the factory default (1234):
-
Press the device button once to turn it off (The Red LED will flash 3 times and turn off).
-
Press the button a second time to turn it back on (The Green LED will flash 4 times).
-
Your Bluetooth PIN is now successfully reset to 1234.
Replacing the Batteries
The eLam Level V2-Plus is powered by 2 x AA batteries.
-
Remove the Device: Carefully remove the unit from its mounted position. IMPORTANT: Do not twist or force the device from a single corner to release the double-sided tape, as this can flex and crack the internal circuit board. Use a flat knife, fishing line, or thin wire to slice through the adhesive tape.
-
Access the Screws: Locate the rubber strips at the four corners on the bottom of the device. Gently peel back each rubber corner to reveal the 4 mounting screws.
-
Open Casing: Undo the 4 screws and remove the outer casing.
-
Remove Circuit Board: Gently unclip the circuit board by holding it strictly by the edges. Do not touch any of the face circuitry.
-
Swap Batteries: Remove the old batteries and insert 2 x new AA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-).
-
Reassemble: Clip the board back into place exactly as it was removed. Reassemble the casing, ensuring the center rubber button aligns perfectly with the alignment grooves in the upper and lower casing before tightening the 4 corner screws and flattening the rubber covers back down.
-
Reconnect: Changing the batteries automatically resets the PIN to the factory default (1234) and puts the device into advertising mode. Connect to the app and update your secure custom PIN under Settings > Connected Device Settings.
Troubleshooting
-
Android 12 (or newer) Connection Issues: An Android operating system update can sometimes reset background app permissions. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > eLam Level > Permissions. Ensure that both 'Location' and 'Nearby Devices' are explicitly set to Allowed.
-
The App Won't Connect to the Device: Some smartphones temporarily lock out Bluetooth connections if more than 5 pairing attempts are made within 30 seconds.
-
Solution: Toggle your phone's Bluetooth off, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back on. If the issue persists, restart your phone.
-
-
The Green LED Stays Permanently On: If the green light refuses to turn off, press and hold the device button until it shuts down. If it remains frozen, follow the battery replacement steps to briefly remove and re-insert one battery to hard-reset the hardware.
-
The Device Cannot Be Found During a Scan:
-
Make sure the device is actually turned on (press the button; the Green LED should flash 4 times).
-
Ensure the device isn't secretly connected to a different phone nearby. Even if the green LED appears off, another background app may be holding the connection. Fully close the app on all other devices in the area.
-
-
Poor Signal / Connection Drops From the Driver's Seat: Try relocating the device to a different spot inside the vehicle, ensuring it isn't placed directly against major electrical wiring or metal appliances.
-
Alternative External Mounting: Because the V2-Plus is fully IP67 waterproof, caravan owners can mount it externally on the drawbar (secured tightly with heavy-duty cable ties and squared with the chassis).
